PRINCIPLES FOR MEMBERSHIP

Membership in the Alliance is available to independent schools who belong to the California Association of Independent Schools.

Member schools strive for:

  • The creation of a school community that appreciates and validates diversity;
  • An admission process that respects the experiences, cultures and perspectives of a range of cultural and ethnic groups;
  • The active recruitment of students of color;
  • A climate of support for these students and their families once admitted;
  • The active recruitment of faculty of color;
  • A climate of support for these faculty;
  • Faculty and staff development in multi-cultural awareness, understanding and appreciation;
  • Similar programs for other school constituencies, including students, parents, and trustees;
  • A curriculum that reflects the experience, cultures and perspectives of a range of cultural and ethnic groups;
  • A financial aid program that supports socio-economic diversity;
  • The NAIS "Principles of Good Practice for Equity and Justice;"
  • The NAIS "Principles of Good Practice for Financial Aid Administration."
